Jason Bourne Reborn
It’s ten years after and Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) has finally recovered from his amnesia, isolating himself from the world and making a living by taking part in illegal fighting rings. In Reykjavik, the capital city of Iceland, Nicky Parsons (Julia Stiles) has been collaborating with a group led by Christian Dassault, who hack into the CIA mainframe computer server in a bid to expose the CIA’s black ops programme. In the process, Parsons finds documents that concern Jason Bourne’s recruitment, and his father’s role in the programme.
Nicky Parsons Meets Jason Bourne Again
She travels to Greece to find and inform him, but Heather Lee, Head of the CIA Cyber Ops Division and CIA Director, Robert Dewey send a team after her. In Greece, Parsons and Bourne meet at Syntagma Square, and while trying to evade the team sent after them, Parsons is killed. But before she dies, Parsons is able to pass the key to a luggage locker that holds the CIA files on to Bourne.
Intent on finding burning answers about his past and family, Jason Bourne locates Christian Dassault in Berlin who helps him decrypt the files that Parsons gave him the key to. From them, he discovers that his father, Richard Webb, was an analyst for the CIA and was involved with the creation of the original Treadstone program (which he, Jason was part of). However, malware planted in the files alerts the CIA to Bourne’s location, and Dewey again sends a team to capture him while Lee remotely erases the files to prevent another leak.
From Berlin To London
Dassault attacks Bourne but is killed in the fight, and yet again, Bourne escapes. Using the few leads he gathered in Berlin, Bourne tracks Malcolm Smith, a former Treadstone surveillance operative in London and arranges to meet him in Paddington Square. In the meantime, the plot to kill Bourne thickens, and an assassin is sent after him. Knowing that the CIA is watching him, Bourne evades Lee long enough to confront Smith.
Smith admits that Richard Webb – that is Bourne’s father – created Treadstone, and that he tried to prevent them from recruiting Bourne. For this reason, Robert Dewey orders the killing of Webb by The Asset (the same person who was sent after Julia Parsons, and who killed her), and stage his death as a terrorist attack so as to get Bourne to join Treadstone. The Asset again finds Smith in London and kills him, but Jason Bourne proves too tough for him and manages to escape.
The Showdown In Las Vegas
While Dewey was attending a convention at Las Vegas, he orders the killing of Aaron Kalloor, CEO of social media enterprise Deep Dream, because Dewey feels Kalloor who has been secretly supporting his illegal assassination programmes will refuse to allow him access to Deep Dream, which he intends to use for mass surveillance purposes. Bourne arrives at the convention in time to thwart the assassination and confront Dewey in his hotel suite.
Dewey appeals to Bourne, all in a bid to buy himself more time for CIA agents to close in and kill Bourne. But in the huddle, Bourne kills Jeffers – Dewey’s right-hand man, while Lee kills Dewey before he could shoot Bourne. Bourne covers up Lee’s involvement before giving chase to the The Asset, whom he finally kills in a sewer.
What Next?
In the aftermath, Lee convinces Edwin Russell, the Director of National Intelligence that Dewey’s methods were outdated, and offers herself as a candidate to become Dewey’s replacement as CIA Director. She outlines her plan to use Bourne’s trust to bring him back to the agency, but mentioned the need to kill him if he refuses.
Lee approaches Bourne, promising him that the CIA will become the organisation he thought it was when he joined. Bourne asks for time to consider her offer, but leaves a recording of her conversation with Russell in her car, revealing that he does not trust her, before he disappears again.
So, will Bourne consider Lee’s offer on his own terms? Or will he take her out before she succeeds in taking him out?
