You must have it heard said that laughing and it’s first cousin, smiling require very little facial muscles to form, and that when laughter is genuine, it has the power to break down barriers.
Genuine laughter is unguarded, and usually occurs at a moment when something is so absurd you can’t help but express your feelings by laughing. In that moment, you let people see a bit of yourself. In a way, if you can get a girl to laugh, it is a sign that she is feeling safe and trusts you enough to share that happy moment with you.
Keep in mind that humour can quickly go dark; one minute you can be charming someone immensely, and the next, you say just the wrong thing making you look like an ass. There are a few things you should probably avoid joking about: Religion, Politics, and Sex – the 3 taboo topics in social conversations.
Once you get to know the person better, you are more likely to know what she will find amusing, and some of these subjects may be more appropriate for jokes.
Examples of Things to Say to Make Girls Laugh
Here are few things to say to make girls laugh, giggle, smile, or otherwise feel positive. They fall into different categories and situations,
- Upon introduction
After meeting you, I realize someone needs to let an island in Greece know their goddess is missing.
- During a boring speech or social function
I find my mind wandering, somehow. Care to wander with me?
- After mispronouncing or otherwise misspeaking
I’m sorry, pardon me…rented lips.
- After saying something not funny or interesting
While holding your palm out in front of you, mimic writing and say:
Note to self: Never mention (whatever subject) around her again. She is not amused. Must find more clever conversation – add to to-do list
- If conversation is going well
You know, this has been one of the most enjoyable conversations I have had in weeks. Mind if we start over? I’d like to experience it again.
Then leave, walk up to her, and introduce yourself again, as if for the first time.
- After she says something particularly witty
Feign a romantic French accent and say:
Oh you are zee dee-LIGHTful! Je t’adore! Je te window! Whatever I am, you go right through me!
- After none of the above works
OK, obviously I need to work on my funny. Please allow me to start over, Hi, my name is…
Then continue speaking without trying to make her laugh.
Don’t Try Too Hard
That last suggestion is probably the most important. If you are trying hard to make her laugh, it will make you look rather desperation – as if you read an article somewhere that said the way to a woman’s heart is by making her laugh!
Instead, you are best served by being yourself and sharing the things you find amusing with her. If she finds them amusing too, then you both are beginning to find common ground for a relationship.
