BEST WAYS OF HANDLING CRITICISM

As a student, you’ll constantly receive opinions about how good or bad your behavior is. It may come from your teachers, parents, or friends.

But irrespective of whoever the criticism is coming from, it is important that you know how to handle them. Interestingly, this works for almost all types of criticisms.

WAYS OF HANDLING CRITICISMS

1) DON’T ARGUE BACK

As a student, you can either receive criticism that is either constructive or destructive. However, no matter the tone of criticism you receive, rather than arguing or defending yourself, it’s best you spend time to reflect on it and get value from it.

2) WHAT’S THE PERSON’S INTENTION?

Your teachers may tell you pointedly your problem and mistakes without trying to cover them even slightly. So you can learn, improve and overcome them. When next you receive criticism from your teachers or friends, don’t forget their intention is not to ridicule you but to help you overcome them.

 3) ASK QUESTIONS

Instead of arguing when criticized, ask the person to be more specific and discuss what you can do to improve.

Be genuinely sincere and interested so the person can sense it and support you the way he can.

 4) ADOPT A GROWTH MINDSET

Always look at feedback as an opportunity to learn and become better. You must always be open to accepting feedback and advice from others so you can improve.

 4) IGNORE IT

Some criticisms are outright negative insults. In situations where someone insults you and their comment brings zero value, the best action is to ignore it and walk away without offense.

 5) NEVER TAKE IT PERSONALLY

Don’t make assumptions. since they said…  They imply… Mistakes don’t signify overall incompetence.

Also, bear in mind another person’s communication style doesn’t reflect your abilities and characteristics, so don’t take it personally.

6) FOCUS ON PROGRESS

Let your goal be incrementally becoming your better self, not necessarily becoming perfect overnight. Always remember,

You may not be where you want to be as a student, but you are not where you used to be before. Let this encourage and inspire you to be better.

 7) IMPLEMENT IT

Work on those advice, suggestions, and recommendations. Don’t just take note of them,  don’t just accept them. Work on them massively until you see positive results and change.

Which of these methods is most effective?
