Davido, Praiz selected to honour Nelson Mandela

Nigeria music superstars, Davido and Praiz, will on Friday take a part in a tribute concert to celebrate the legacy of late South African President, Dr Nelson Mandela.

The concert to the global icon will be taking place on Mandela Day, as part of the 67 minutes contribution towards the global movement for good.

MTN South Africa, which is organising the concert, confirmed the participation of the two Nigerian artists alongside South African nationals Mafikizolo, Uhuru and Oskido.

Larry Annets, Chief Marketing Officer at MTN South Africa, expressed excitement ahead of the event.

“MTN is excited to bring millions of fans together to share these moments through this new experience. This concert will also create a powerful new way for artists to continue to grow their global fan base. This is by no means an ordinary concert – subscribers can share the streaming around the globe,” said Annetts.

The MTN executive added, “What better way to celebrate the legacy of the Father of the nation than through music which has always been an integral part of our cultural makeup.”

On his part, Davido said he was honoured to be part of the concert.

“Nelson Mandela’s legacy resonates with every one of us, from Cape to Cairo. As a performing artist, I have been touched by his story of resilience, humility, selflessness and forgiveness. I am humbled and honoured that I was selected to perform in a tribute concert in honour of this towering figure that represents the good that we all aspire to become,” said the hitmaker.

Mandela, who died in December last year after a long but determined struggle against ill-health, was born on July 18 in 1918.

Every year on July 18, people are asked to volunteer 67 minutes to charity work in support of 67 years of his life he dedicated to the freedom of others.
