Final Thoughts on Education as 2016 Ends…

As the year 2016 finally comes to an end, here are my final words to the Nigerian Education Community…

There is no doubt that technology is taking over every aspect of our lives. Of particular interest is the role technology currently plays in the way we acquire knowledge. Some people have even wondered whether we still need the traditional school system. But here is the truth- whereas technology is reshaping the way students acquire knowledge, it may not completely replace traditional classroom learning. After all, the traditional school system still offers us a major benefit- the provision of a real time learning community. Rather, the key benefits of both should be blended into a perfect mix.

That said, students should take active parts in their learning processes. They should inspire themselves to be inquisitive, exploring the creative reaches of their minds. As for the teachers, standardized tests shouldn’t be the only criterion for measuring intelligence.

Teachers and Educationists should continually be dedicated to helping students become the best they can be. No student should have to suffer in silence. Help them find the bridge between where they are currently academically and where they need to be. Help them be great and make the world a better, more prosperous place.

Governments at various levels must not just come up with very good Education Policies, but must also dully implement such policies. Old schools must be renovated and new ones built. This is the 21st Century; let’s act like we are in it!
