Employment means working for somebody, a company or for the Government for regular payment of wages or salary to sustain life.
Meaning of Self Employment
Self employment is the act of working for oneself instead of working for another person or employer and paid directly by the person or people you provide service for.
Self employment can be defined as an act of being engaged in activity which will attract payment for reward. It is a means of working for oneself, being a boss of your own. A self employed person generally finds his own work rather than being provided with work by an employer.
Facilities available for Self employment
Facilities are the amenities or resources available for self employment in Nigeria are:
- Training facilities: Training facilities are available for self employment by specialized and government established institutions. These trainings are established to develop entrepreneurship and the spirit of self employment in people. The training facilities are provided by Industrial Development Centre (IDC), National Directorate of Employment (NDE) etc
- Loan Facilities: The self-employed people can access loan facilities to start and operate their enterprises from co-operative unions, micro-finance banks, and also from state and federal government.
- Government created industrial parks in different areas to for self employment. The parks are meant for the concentration of industries so that they can jointly use facilities provided by Government.
- Trade fair and exhibition government tries to boost the morale of the self employed by organizing trade fair and exhibitions on annual basis to showcase products produced by self employed people where people can see new products and from there make income for themselves.
- Infrastructural facilities usually made available to self employment by government include roads, electricity, water etc. They are important for a self-employed to carry out his/ her business ideas and plans
- Land association for farming and industrial zones land procurement is one of the basic problems usually faced by new entrepreneur/ self employed; most times the government allocates land for farming purposes for the self employed in agricultural sector.
