In a Manhattan apartment building in New York City, a spoiled terrier dog, Max enjoys a fantastic relationship with his owner, Katie. Beyond this, he’s also friends with other pets in his building. There is fat cat Chloe, goofy pug Mel, tricky wiener dog Buddy, fluffy Pomeranian Gidget (who is in love with Max by the way), and parakeet Sweet Pea.
Max, Meet Duke!
But this dream of a life all changed when Katie adopts another dog from the pound, a giant furry Duke. Not only is he sloppy, Max also feels threatened that Duke will take his place in Katie’s heart, and he would have none of that! So, he hatches a plan to get rid of him.
An Adventure Into the City
Hoping to get rid of Duke, Max leads him astray while they are out with a dog walker. A gang of stray cats headed by Ozone attacks them, and they end up in an animal control truck. Duke knows being returned to the pound will mean him being put down.
But before that will happen, he is rescued together with Max by a band of abandoned “Flushed Pets”, headed by white rabbit Snowball. These rejected pets hate domesticated pets for the love that they get from humans, hence, they lie to them that they too are abandoned strays.
Their Lie Is Found Out!
In the Flushed Pets headquarters, which is nothing more than a sewer! Max and Duke joined the “Flushed Pets” gang who despise humans for the fact that they rejected them. When Snowball finds out they have an owner, he gets mad for having being fooled by them and vows revenge when they escape him.
“Gidget and The Gang” to the Rescue
Gidget, remember her? The Pomeranian who is in love with Max. Well, she gets the gang together to find and rescue Max. To accomplish this, she recruits a hawk named Tiberius, who in turn leads them to an elderly dog called Pops, and together, they prowl the city following clues that will lead them to Max and Duke.
Will There Be a Happy Reunion?
Will Max and Duke ever learn to like each other and work together? Will Gidget and pals find and help them? Will Snowball and his abandoned pet gang get to Max and Duke first? Will there be a happy ever after for any of these pets?
Hmmn, so many questions, and so many answers to be found!
