Queens College Parents Teachers Association (QCPTA), has in the past 4 years spent N289 million on the construction of hostel for students of the college. This hostel will accommodate about 600 students, including prefects, JS1 students, and house mistresses
This was the assurance as the Chairlady of the association, Mrs. Beatrice Akhetuamen, did a formal handing-over of said property to the school administration, maintaining also that adequate attention will be given to maintenance of the facility. In addition to the hostel, two brand new buses were also donated to the school by the PTA, which were received by the College Principal, Dr. Lami Amodu.
Upon receiving the keys, Dr Amodu noted that the vehicles will serve the transport need of the students, while also praising the assistance and consistency of the college’s PTA, commending the effort of the present body and chair lady as well as their predecessors.
Mrs Akhetuamen went further to explain that the donation of the hostel hold great significance for her because of her daughters’ bitter experiences, who along with several other students were de-listed by the former school head due to a lack of hostel space for all students.
She recalled that the action of the then Principal, Mrs. M. O. A. Ladipo, to de-list some senior students garnered much uproar among parents, who were challenged by Mrs Ladipo to provide accommodation for their children. This challenge, according to Mrs Akhetuamen was what gave birth to the hostel, while the buses were bought to ease the suffering of students who were often left stranded when out on school engagements due to rickety, mal-functioning buses.
Some of the beneficiaries could not hide their joy at being housed in such befitting edifice.
