The Chief Accountant of Home Science Association School, Ikoyi, Lagos, western Nigeria, Adetoye Adegoke, 50, has been arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court for allegedly defrauding 92 students of the school of N13,164, 855.
Adegoke was arrested by operatives of the Special Fraud Unit, SFU, of the Nigeria Police, Milverton Road, Ikoyi, Lagos and arraigned in court on a four-count charge of obtaining money under false pretence and stealing.
The suspect was accused by the police of using his position as the accountant of the institution to forge the school management’s bank teller and stamp to collect the school fees from the students without authorisation.
Some of the victims include Temilade Osofisan who allegedly paid N25,000; Halim Kuku who paid N54,000; Alabi Titurin paid N15,000; Joseph Kudehinbu paid N15,000 and Sultan Adepitan who paid N75,235 to the accountant.
Adegoke pleaded not guilty to the charge in the open court and the presiding magistrate, Mrs. O.O Fowowe, admitted the accused on bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Justice Fowowe adjourned the matter till 23 April, 2014 for mention.
The defendant was, however, remanded in Ikoyi Prison, pending when he will fulfill his bail conditions.
