A 49-year-old pastor, Moyo Martins, has been arrested and charged to court for allegedly cutting off the finger of a 2-year-old girl, Saidat Faleye at Yaba area of Lagos

It was gathered that the mother of the child, Mrs. Bola Faleye, had left her in the care of Martins on Thursday, when she wanted to take her bath and about five minutes later, the girl was heard screaming out loud which drew the attention of the mother and neighbours. When they rushed to the pastor’s room, they found the girl’s ring and little fingers had been chopped off.
Martins had reportedly sawed off the fingers in his room.
Sadiat was then rushed to a hospital within the area for treatment.
The suspect initially denied knowing anything about the incident but after his arrest, he allegedly confessed that he did it in error and pleaded to be forgiven.
He was arraigned on a one-count charge before a Yaba Chief Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Martins however pleaded not guilty to the charge and elected summary trial at the magistrate’s court.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Y.O Aje-Afunwa, admitted him to bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
The matter was adjourned till April 24, 2014
