SOCCER: Inter Milan target summer swoop for Chelsea’s Mikel Obi

Italy’s biggest journal La Gazetta dello Sport informed that Italian side Inter Milan are still interested in acquiring Chelsea and Super Eagles midfielder John Obi Mikel.

Mikel was watched by Inter’s sporting directors Marco Branca and Piero Ausilio, who wanted him in the Italian club, but the transfer did not materialise in January.

However, now with the acquisition of Nemanja Matic, Jose Mourinho seems to have enough depth in the squad to let Mikel leave the club and even lower the transfer fee which currently is set around 15 million euro, but there is still one major obstacle, which is Mikel’s salary of approximately 4 million euro per year. John Obi Mikel’s contract with Chelsea expires in Summer 2017.
