Teens! Learn ways to Manage School-related Stress

Although it may not seem like it, the truth is that secondary school students are actually [fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”yes” overflow=”visible”][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][incessantly] busy. The amount of subjects they are required to study, the many tests they write and of course the fear of almighty WAEC (both Junior and Senior) can all be catalysts for stress. And then there is the ever present pressure to get admission into the university and do their family proud. So in all these, the question is- what can be done to relief teenagers of school-related stress?

Below are some tips (according to experts) to help you cope with stress as a student.

Talk to someone

The culture of talking to someone (a counselor of some sort) when we have a problem is almost none-existent in Nigeria and very much so in Nigerian secondary schools. Students have to bottle up their feeling only because they don’t know how to let it out. This is a major flaw in the part of our school system which must be addressed. Asides a few standardized private schools who can afford the services of child psychologists, a bulk of schools most especially the public schools do not make this provision. Things must change for the better. I the meantime, students experiencing stress as a result of problems at school can always talk to either their teachers or their parents. Hopefully, they will be able to proffer solution to your issues.

Avoid negative people.

Try as much as possible not to be in the company of fellow students who are awfully negative. I am talking about those who complain about basically everything and try to get you to feel shitty as them. As the saying goes, birds of the same feather flock together. When you keep company with negative people, chances are that they will inevitably influence you. And when you are negative, it is almost impossible not to be stressed.

Try to stay calm and relaxed in spite of the challenges.

One of the many secrets to happiness is to never fret unnecessarily even when there are obvious reasons to do so. When you worry, all you are doing is merely complicating the problem instead of solving it. Therefore, stay calm by telling yourself that despite the difficulties, everything will turn out just fine. Other ways to stay calm and relax is to take a stroll or do simple exercises.

Always ensure to sleep well.

Sleep lets the brain relax and rejuvenate so you can become more productive. Above that, it is also a good remedy to stress. Ever imagined how stressed you are (asides from being tired) anytime you didn’t sleep well? But the reverse is usually the case when you are stressed and you let yourself have good ole sleep. Therefore, ensure to sleep adequately.

Always make out time to play and have fun.

As the saying goes, all work and no play makes “whoever” a doll person. Perhaps one of the reasons you are stressed is because you hardly play. Don’t be like that; play a little.

All the best please…
