Who are tweens? It seems like that’s a new word that has crept into the English vocabulary, but just what or who are they? Well, “tweens” differ from teens, and while some of you are still in this age group, for the rest of you it’s in the rear view mirror of your life.
Though the definition is not the same everywhere and depends on who is answering the question, but the generally accepted answer is that tweens are children who fall into the 8 – 12 year old category. They are usually caught between childhood and their teenage years – neither here nor there.
At this age, they start to display behaviours that show that they are beginning to form their character and opinions by thinking for themselves, and are no longer Mom and Dad’s sweet little baby.
Girls tend to make the biggest fashion changes, as they would rather die than wear certain clothes like pinafores, gowns with bodice belts and jumpers as they try to look more “adult”, this is also the beginning of paying particular care to their appearance.
The change in boys is a bit more subtle, but you can still see it. Before the tween years, most boys could care less what their clothes and hair look like. Then suddenly, they no longer want mom to pick out their clothing, because now everything is open to experimentation.
So, what are tweens? Probably some of the most complicated creatures on the planet, because it is hard to understand what they think or what they want because they often aren’t sure themselves.
And the mystery has been solved!
