Why You Need a Personal Vision To Guide You In Life and as an Entrepreneur

People throw this word around a lot; motivational speakers, life coaches, your parents, even your teachers. But beyond all the noise, and bias, what does it really mean? In explaining, this article will not go into all that lofty emptiness, but will clearly and simply describe what it means. Ready to launch? Let’s go!

Personal Vision Is?

A personal vision is a guidepost for where you want your life to go, and how you are going to get there. Simple! It helps you weigh every task you do against that personal vision.

Should you drop Geography for Further Mathematics? Take Arts subjects instead of Science? Continue to be friends with Jim even though he’s a bad influence? Spend a little more time on your business idea rather than aimlessly on social media?

Every action you take is a step towards completing that vision. Consider below:

  1. It all starts with a very honest assessment of what you want out of life, and the skills you need to get it. Did you notice the emphasis on honest assessment? You will have to be brutally honest with yourself about your abilities, your inadequacies, strengths, weaknesses, and what you want to do about them.
  2. Next, you will start to map out what it’s going to take to amass those skills, and experience those life events on your journey towards attaining your own vision. Will you need to study a particular course at the university? Will you need a mentor who is already in that field? Will you need to intern for that company for those skills and experience you need?
  3. Once you map this out, you will have a plan and a way to guide your daily decisions at home, school and work. You will know whether each activity is moving you towards your goals.

Suddenly, paying attention in class, completing your assignments, reading about entrepreneurship, finance and investment, taking your time to ask questions and find their answers, all take on a new meaning. Because none of them are simply another task to be done, but instead are part of a master plan to get you to your goals. Step by step.

That is how you stay engaged day after day, and that is how you make it through each of those days. Give it a try!

If you have not started thinking this way, it means you do not yet have a personal vision guiding your life and your choices, but it is not late to start. For as C.S Lewis said:

You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream!
