10 Important Pieces Of Life Advice Every Teenager Needs To Read

It’s hard to be a teenager in this day and age, because we get mixed messages from the media and from people around us. Be yourself! No, be like this. Be whatever weight you want! But pay attention to all these movies and TV shows where everyone is a size 2. Never settle for a dude/girl! But don’t be alone forever. Ugh, it’s so confusing. Luckily, advice like this helps and makes you feel better. Here are 10 important pieces of life advice every teen needs to read right now:

1. Learn How To Be Polite

Be polite. Know when to push your opinions and when to say “really? How interesting.” You don’t ALWAYS have to be the one who’s right. You don’t always have to speak your mind. Sometimes it’s better to just be polite.

2. Don’t Be TOO Nice

Being nice is not a strength unless you know when to say “No”. There is such a thing as being too nice, and it’s not helpful to you. Don’t let people take you for granted.

3. Pay Attention To Comfort

Don’t wear shoes or cloths that are uncomfortable even if you think they make you look ‘sexy’. When it comes to fashion, the uncomfortable option is almost never worth it.

4. Don’t Be Afraid To Stand Up For Yourself

Don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself. If you don’t respect yourself, you can’t expect others to. Also, don’t hide your intelligence. It’s really important to be able to stand up for yourself and be able to fight for what you want or what you feel like you deserve. If you can’t do that, you’ll never get your way.

5. Don’t Be Afraid To Ask For Help

There’s no way to get around suffering at certain points in your life, but there’s no need to suffer alone. Call your parents, let them know what you’re feeling, you may be surprised at what they say since they’ve probably felt the same things you do now. Don’t wait to enlist the help of a professional either; they’re professionals for a reason.

6. Save Your Money

Concentrate on becoming financially independent of your parents. This will allow you to stand up for yourself and will give you a certain degree of freedom that otherwise you might not have. Be responsible! It really is important.

7. Don’t Stay Around People Who Bring You Down

Some people will say things to make you feel unattractive and undermine your confidence. It could be something seemingly innocuous. They do this to bring you down to their level because they know that you’re more attractive than they are. Get as far away from that person as fast as you can. Those people are NOT your friends.

8. No One Is Paying As Much Attention To You As You Think

No one, and I mean NO ONE, is paying as much attention to you as you think they are. That insecurity you feel? Yeah, everyone around you has just as much of it as you do. Stop worrying about how you seem to others and just do your thing.

9. Don’t Stay With Someone Who Disrespects You

For the girls, walk away from any guy who disrespects you or makes you feel unworthy in any way. Listen to that nagging, gut feeling and trust it. Just walk away… One day there will be a guy who doesn’t make you feel that way and you deserve that. You’re better off single than with someone who doesn’t treat you right.

10. Know That It’s Okay To Learn From Experience

The thing is, many things can only be learned from experience, or by personally coming about a pressing reason to follow that advice. Advice is great, but until it becomes personally relevant, it can be hard to follow as a young adult.

  1. Great article Tony.

I would like to drop two additional tips:

    1. Don’t compare yourself with others. Meaning, don’t try to think that you are better than others or others are better than you.

    2. Do try to corporate with others. Meaning, when others ask for help always try to help so that when you do ask, they will also give you a hand.
