11 Interesting Things You Didn’t Know About Adekunle Gold (Orente)

Here are some interesting things you didn’t know about Adekunle Gold:

  1. His real name is Adekunle Kosoko and stage name is Adekunle  Gold.
  2. Adekunle was born into a royal family in Lagos State.
  3. He is a graduate of Lagos State Polytechnic with a degree in Arts and Graphics.
  4. As a teen, he joined the junior church choir of the church he was attending and went on to write his first song at the age of 15.
  5. Adekunle Gold use to be  Gaphics Designer and he was dubbed “King of Photoshop” after posting an edited Photoshop image of him hugging Tiwa Savage and Tonto Dikeh.
  6. His dad used to play classic songs by King Sunny Ade and Ebenezer Obey while he drove them to school every day. He developed interest in music from listening to those men. 
  7.  He formed a band “The Bridge” with best friend, Seyikeyz, in 2010 and they released four songs “No sleeping on a bicycle”, “Norm Breaker” featuring Skales and “All of me” (John legend cover). In 2013, he Left ‘The Bridge’ to debut as a solo act.
  8. In 2014, Adekunle went solo after he disbanded a music group he formed with a friend while in school.  On 19 December 2014, he released a cover of One Direction’s “Story of My Life” titled “Sade” which rose to critical acclaim and went on to be nominated at the 2015 edition of The Headies.
  9. After the release of “Sade”, Adekunle released his first official single titled “Orente” through YBNL Nation after signing a music contract with the record label on March 5, 2015.

    • “Pick Up” (2015)
  11. In 2015, he was nominated in the Most Promising Act of the Year category at the 2015 City People Entertainment Awards and was also nominated in the “Best Alternative Song” category at The Headies 2015 for his song titled “Sade”.

When asked in an interview about his Photoshops and his music career he said:

 “Photoshop is fun; I love the way it makes people laugh and the attention I get. I do not like to be the ordinary guy; I like to be known for something. I made a picture of me hugging Tiwa Savage from behind and when I posted it on Instagram; I was overwhelmed by people’s response. I decided to continue with it and as time went on, bloggers started writing about me, people started talking about it and that increased my fan base. It has helped me meet people that have assisted me with my music career.”
