1. UNDERSTAND YOURSELF
Understanding of one’s self is a great tool towards achieving academic success. It is necessary to have adequate knowledge of yourself. Knowing yourself basically involves knowing your strengths and weaknesses, focusing on your strengths and working on your weaknesses. Identifying how well you learn and when best you learn.
2. READ ACTIVELY
Smart students read actively rather than passively. Active reading involves underlining and highlighting necessary point, set practice questions for yourself, be fully involved in what you are reading. Use the three R’s of memory as a guide: reception (attentive and observant), retention (review and recite) and recollection (organizing and visualizing).
3. UTILIZE EVERY CLASS
Utilizing every class includes
(i) Sit towards the front of the class rather than sit backward.
(ii) Fully participate in the class i.e. make suggestions, ask questions, answer questions etc.
(iii) Attend every class with the mindset of learning, don’t be distracted, avoid social media and side talk, and pay extreme attention to the lecture.
4. TAKE GREAT NOTES
Taking great notes requires you to listen well, note the important elements of every lecture and other necessary suggestions made by your teacher. Adopt a particular system of writing that best suits you.
5. STUDY DAILY
Commit quality time to study, study bit by bit as this would help boost productivity. Active studying involves rewriting notes, answering past questions etc. Studying daily would increases your chances of performing well during exams.
6. OBTAIN THE HELP YOU NEED
Seek help from the right authorities when you need one, they include: your teacher, tutorial centers, and your fellow students. If the challenge is not academic related, consult your school support center.
7. IMPROVE YOUR WRITING
One of the basic essence of improving your writing is to clearly express your ideas and this will payoff in courses that have writing components. Improving your writing skills will make you feel smarter, sound and also lead you to greater professional success.
