The Communications Coordinator of SciCom Nigeria, Mr Abdullahi Tsanni, has advocated the revitilisation of science subjects in secondary schools.

Tsanni, in an interview with our correspondent, said the National Life Sciences Competition for students will inspire and motivate Nigerian secondary school pupils to take up career paths in science.

He said the competition will give special consideration to female pupils to develop genuine interests in life science courses.

“This competition is for secondary school pupils in Nigeria. It is important because many pupils do not appreciate the career opportunities in life sciences, so we want to change the narrative towards this.

“Life science is an advancing discipline and it involves the study of the structure and function of living organisms. This is critical to improving the understanding of human health including the recent COVID-19 pandemic. But oftentimes these fields of study are relegated and pupils are not encouraged to take up the available opportunities for research,” Tsanni said.

He added that the initiative will inspire pupils, improve their understanding of life science courses and help provide mentors that will guide them in their future careers in life sciences.
