The acting Vice-Chancellor of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, has commended Governor Rotimi Akeredolu for signing into law retirement ages for staff of higher institutions.
Prof. Ige, in a statement on Monday, expressed the hope that the development would ignite more zeal among AAUA officials and lift the institution to greater heights.
According to Prof. Ige, under the new law, retirement age for staff in the professorial cadre had been extended from 65 years to 70 years; while the retirement age of other academic staff and non-academic staff, was extended from 60 years to 65 years.
He said, “On behalf of our university, I want to thank Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, for signing the bill for retirement age into law and for his continuous efforts at deepening the development of education in Ondo State.
“I also appreciate members of the State Executive Council, the Speaker and members of the state House of Assembly for promptly attending to this long-awaited bill.”
He also thanked all members of staff and unions of the institution for exhibiting exemplary maturity and patience throughout the period the struggle lasted.
