#PNN E-MENTORING (Taiwo Akinlami): Staying Safe on Nigeria’s Mean Streets – Useful Tips (For Teens) 5

Welcome to this page today young friends. It gives me great pleasure to join you here again. Without taking much of your time, I will proceed to the last principle you must know about yourself to be in a position to protect yourself: being young does not mean you have a lot of time.

‘How time flies,’ is a popular saying, yet very true. Time flies on the wing of man’s lack of consciousness of the fact that he/she is here just for a brief period of time and has a responsible to make the time count.

To protect yourself, you must know and accept that being young does not mean you have time to submit yourself to any form of abuse or allow it to continue. There are some scars that plague you from your youth but time will fail you to deal with in the near future. Such scars form mountains of regrets, which in most cases may be avoidable if you understand this principle from today.

Caution demands that you take every meaningful step towards your protection, knowing that prevention is superior to cure. You are not built for abuse. Therefore you must not allow yourself to be abused by a peer or caregiver. You are not built for abuse and your body is not designed to be abused and remain intact. The bitter truth is that a lifetime is never enough to undo the damage done to you in childhood.

Permit me to charge you today to put on your thinking cap and proceed to ensure that you do not have time for any avoidable situation, which may cause you a scar. For example, why would you as a female decide to visit a male friend without a company? Why would you choose to have a friend, who you do not know and cannot vouch for? Why would you go to places, you are not able to defend when you are found there? Why would you give your details to a stranger? Why would you in the name of being smart perfect the act of sneaking out of the control of constituted authorities to give expression to your lost for pleasure.

Many are young people, who have lost their lives or other things because they are located at the wrong place. The truth is that the devil is in the details we ignore. It is time to live by the full picture, knowing that we do not have time to roam aimlessly on the streets of life, looking for the things, which are not missing.

It is time to get serious about out personal safety and protection, knowing that we have no time for anything that creates loopholes for our abuse.

I will be here next week to being to share with you the two laws of protection and what forms of abuse you must guide and guard yourself against.

Our time or should I say our space is spent. I have to go now…Please note that I am available for interaction on this platform. Do have an INSPIRED week. Stay SMART!
