Nigeria’s Super Falcons yesterday booked a place in the semi-final of the African Women Championship with a convincing 6-0 win over their Zambian counterparts.
The Nigerian women set the tone for their male counterparts, the Super Eagles who play Sudan in a must win reverse match of the Nations Cup qualifiers after slumping 1-0 to the Sudanese last week. A win could relaunch the team’s battle to qualify after picking a point from three matches.
Against Zambia yesterday, it was more of a practice session for the Super Falcons who are looking to regain their top position in Africa and also make a huge impact at the Women World Cup next year.
Striker Ngozi Akobi opened scoring in the 2nd minute of play and defender Osinachi Ohale added the second in the 6th minute. Desire Oparanozie fired home the third from the spot, after Susan Banda handled the ball in the box. Those goals confounded the Zambians and they had no clue to the free flowing passing game of the Super Falcons. But for poor finishing, the Falcons would have scored more goals.

Grace Zulu was sent off for a second bookable offence after she tripped Oparanozie, but the Falcons failed to make the extra number count until the referee signalled for the end of the first stanza.
