Physics Lesson Note For SS2 (First Term)
Below are the 2022 complete Physics lesson notes for SS2 First Term
Week 1 – Concept of position, distance and displacement in relation to X – Y plane
Overview – The position of a body is the distance between two perpendicular lines (x-axis and y– axis) of a point. The x-axis and y– axis meet at a point called the origin. Distance is a scalar quantity that is defined to as the total movement covered by an object in space. Displacement on the other hand is a vector quantity that refers to the distance covered in a specified direction. This week, we shall learn about the position, distance and displacement. To learn more, Click here…
Week 2 – Scalar and vector quantities
Overview – Scalar and vector quantities are physical quantities, while scalar quantities are concerned with just magnitude, vector quantities deal with both magnitude and direction. This week, we shall learn about scalar and vector quantities. We shall also learn how to represent vectors, types of vectors, how to add scalars and vectors. We shall also learn about the laws that govern the addition of vectors. To learn more, Click here…
Week 3 – Derivation of equations of linear motion
Overview – The movement of objects in a straight line is referred to as linear motion. This week, we shall learn about the equations of linear motion and how they were derived, step by step. We shall also learn about motion under gravity, gravitational force and how gravity affects motion. To learn more, Click here…
Week 4 – Projectile and its Applications
Overview – Projectile refers to any object that is launched into the air and moves freely under the influence of the force of gravity. It can be split into horizontal and vertical projectile motions. This week, we shall learn about projectile motion and projectiles. We shall also learn how to solve problems on projectile motion. To learn more, Click here…
Physics Lesson Note For SS2 (First Term)
Week 5 – Newton’s Laws of Motion
Overview – Sir Isaac Newton is the one that formulated the three laws of motion. These laws help us comprehend the behaviour of objects that are at rest or in motion when no force acts on them and what happens when forces act upon them. This week, we shall learn about Newton’s three laws of motion and how to solve problems on them. We shall also learn about the conservation of linear momentum, collisions and the applications of Newton’s laws of motion and conservation of momentum. To learn more, Click here…
Week 6 – Equilibrium of Forces
Overview – Equilibrium refers to a state in which there is no force acting on an object and as a result the object does not rotate i.e. the net forces balance each other out. This week, we shall learn about resultant and equilibrant forces, conditions of equilibrium under the action of parallel and non-parallel coplanar forces as well as the principle of moments. To learn more, Click here…
Physics Lesson Note For SS2 (First Term)
Week 7 – Equilibrium of Forces (Cont’d)
Overview – The centre of gravity of a body is defined as the point through which the line of action of the weight of the body always passes irrespective of the position of the body. Locating the centre of gravity can be done by the balancing method or the plumbline method. This week, we shall learn about the centre of gravity and how to determine the centre of gravity for both regular and irregular objects. We shall also learn about stability which in physics refers to the measure of the tendency of an object to topple over when acted upon by external forces. We shall also learn about the concept of the couple. To learn more, Click here…
Week 8 – Simple Harmonic Motion
Overview – A case of oscillatory motion, simple harmonic motion is a periodic motion of a body along a straight line in such a way that the acceleration of the body is directed towards a fixed point and is also proportional to its displacement from that point. This week, we shall be introduced to simple harmonic motion and basic terms applied in simple harmonic motion such as speed, acceleration, period, frequency, etc. To learn more, Click here…
Week 9 – Simple Harmonic Motion (Cont’d)
Overview – This week, we shall learn more about simple harmonic motion. We shall learn about the energy of simple harmonic motion in the case of a simple pendulum, a suspended mass and how to solve problems on it. We shall also learn about forced vibration and resonance. To learn more, Click here…
Week 10 – Machines
Overview – A machine is defined as a mechanical device or tool that permits an applied force called effort at one point to overcome a resisting force at the other end. Machines were invented to make our lives easier by making work faster, easier and less strenuous. They differ in their level of complexity. This week, we shall learn about machines and the types of simple machines. To learn more, Click here…
Physics Lesson Note For SS2 (First Term)
Week 11 – Machines (Cont’d)
Overview – This week, we shall learn how to solve problems on machines using the different formulae that apply. To learn more, Click here…
Week 12 – Revision/Examination
