Did you like the Harry Porter series? Well the magic continues! And like any true fan, I know you are like C’mon JK, Bring it on!!
Four years after the premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, hungry Potterheads are getting bits and pieces of vital information about the series’ spinoff, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Earlier this week, the first set of photos from the film, as well as the somewhat disappointing revelation from Rowling that the terms Muggles has been changed to No-Maj – as in No magic – (trust the Americans to always manage to over-simplify things!). However, the plot itself has been shrouded in mystery.
Since the book was created as the textbook that all Hogwarts students must read in their first year, it’s just a catalog of interesting creatures, meaning that Warner Bros. had to start from scratch when deciding on a cinematic story line. All we’ve known about the plot so far is that it features magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) going on adventures to America in 1926.( Yes, they are going back in time)
It has further been revealed that the plot will focus on Scamander arriving in New York (for reasons that haven’t been disclosed) with a bottomless suitcase – just like the one Hermoine carried in Deathly Hallows – that’s filled with exotic and endangered magical creatures from all over the world. He finds that muggles in America (I simply refuse to call them “No-Maj”!) are even more terrified of witches and wizards than in merry old England. So when some of these fantastic beasts escape from his case, what follows is better left imagined.
While Rowling had a lot of input on all of the Harry Potter films, this will be her first screenplay, so it’s bound to be a welcome return to the magical world she has created.
