6 Things You Didn’t Know About Mickey Mouse

Perhaps, you are a fan of Mickey Mouse, and may have seen some shows of the world’s famous mouse. But there is a difference between knowing someone – perhaps their name – and really knowing them – their character, likes, secrets. Here are some things you didn’t know about Mickey.

1. He is 87 years old

Mickey Mouse made his official debut on November 18, 1928, in the animated short Steamboat Willie.

2. His Original Name was Mortimer

There are rumours that Walt Disney’s (he created the character) wife, Lillian persuaded him to use the name “Mickey” instead.

3. His first words were “hot dogs!”

These were his first words as a cartoon character

4. He only has four fingers on each hand

Walt Disney said five fingers were “too many for a mouse.” Plus, it’s estimated that the lack of an extra finger in  45,000 drawings of Mickey Mouse saved the studio millions of dollars.

5. He Hasn’t Always Worn Gloves

Mickey first wore his signature white gloves in the 1929 film The Opry House — and hasn’t taken them off since.

6. He and Minnie Never Had a Wedding

At least not on screen anyway, although Walt Disney said the pair were married. Interestingly, the longtime voices of Mickey and Minnie – Wayne Allwine and Russi Taylor – respectively, were married to each other.
And these are the never before heard facts about the world’s most famous mouse.
