Writers Corner, Vuvuzela and Greenlife Inaugurate Students Literary Competition

Pupils endowed with skills in story writing and poetry are in for a good time, as the maiden edition of the Rising Star Writing Competition and Awards begins. Writers Corner, Vuvuzela Communications Limited and the GreenLife Pharmaceuticals Limited are sponsors of the initiative.

The Writers Corner Project Co-ordinator, Mrs. Uche Udoji, made this known at a briefing in Lagos on Thursday.

According to her:
The competition is for pupils in Nigeria’s private and public primary and secondary schools as well as Nigerians in the Diaspora. The participants, however must be between ages six and 17.

Targeted at developing children’s creative thinking and writing skills, she noted that winners in the competition would receive various prizes, comprising cash, laptops and certificates, while winning candidates will have their entries published in an anthology, and announced the theme of this year’s competition as “Our Troubled Planet”, stating that the presentation of awards will hold in Lagos next April.

She added further:

The idea is to expose the imaginative spirit of these kids. We believe that the publication of the winning stories and poems will make an interesting book for children and teachers of creative writing. It will also inspire and motivate all children to keep reading and writing.

The Greenlife Marketing Manager, Mr. Derrick Osondu, said the company was interested in the initiative to develop the participants’ creative minds and encourage healthy competition among them.
