Akinwunmi Ambode, is the Governor of Lagos State. He was a civil servant for 27 years and a financial consultant before running for public office as Governor of Lagos State in 2015.

Ambode ran for office of the Governor of Lagos State in April 2015 as a member of the All Progressives Congress, the state’s ruling party, he won the election, defeating the second-place candidate by more than 150,000 votes.He began his tenure as the governor of Lagos on 29 May 2015.

1. Akinwunmi Ambode was born June 14, 1963 at the Epe General Hospital, Epe in Lagos state.

2. He began his education at St. Jude’s Primary School, Ebutte Meta, Lagos, Nigeria in 1969.

3. He was admitted to Federal Government College (FGC), Warri in 1974.

4. In 1998, Ambode was awarded the US Fulbright Scholarship for the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship program, in Boston University, Massachusetts, USA.

5. He voluntarily retired from the the civil service in August 2012, after 27 years.

6. He is the Chief Executive Officer of Brand-smiths Consulting Limited – which specializes in public sector finance management.

7. He is the founder of La Roche Leadership Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on developing the next generation of leaders.

8. He was appointed acting Auditor-General for Local Government in 2000 and became the youngest ever Auditor-General for Local Government in Lagos State.

9. I retired voluntarily from public service in August, 2012; the first ever recorded voluntary retirement by a Permanent Secretary in the Lagos State Public Service.

10. He served his mandatory National Youth Service Corps year with the Central Bank of Nigeria in Sokoto State.

11. After his NYSC year, Ambode commenced his career at the Lagos State Waste Disposal Board (now LAWMA) as Accountant Grade II.
