In another week or couple of weeks, you will be sitting your mid-term tests and getting ready for examinations that are bound to come at the end of the term. But how can you ensure to hold yourself accountable to achieve the success you desire? And how can the habits you develop now contribute to your success in the future, especially as an entrepreneur? If you care to know, consider some of the things you should pay attention to.
1. Create a Contract With Yourself
Doing this helps to hold you responsible to yourself, and motivates you to improve upon what you did the day before. But it need not be a boring document, you can actually have fun with it!
You could start by writing a couple of paragraphs stating that for each day, you will give everything you have. How you word it is up to you, but just the act of drafting a contract with yourself motivates you psychologically. After you must have drafted this contract, put it somewhere where you will see it multiple times a day.
But this is just the easiest part, the real work comes when you have to be 100 percent honest with yourself by looking at your contract to see if you have lived up to the words that you wrote down.
2. Pick One Key Area of Your Life and Get Better At It Every Single Day
Try this simple test. Pick one key area to focus on for a day, a week, or a month, put it on a list, and make it the focal point of your effort. Track your progress over that period of time to see how much you have improved. You will be surprised by the phenomenal results you will record.
If you adopt this technique to pick one thing to work on and get better at each day, imagine how much you can achieve in a year! Over time, you will notice not only a drastic difference in the results you begin to see, but also how you approach each new day and task.
The reason why this practice works so well is because you are not overwhelming yourself with 1,000 different areas of your life you need to work on at a time, but by taking it one day at a time, you will see how by year’s end, you have worked on 365 different areas of your life without being aware of or overwhelmed by the number!
Showing up every single day of your life is critical when it comes to success, whether in academics, career, life or entrepreneurship. Never relent in improving yourself daily, because just when you think you have made it or don’t have to work as hard, someone, somewhere is already gaining an advantage over you and working to surpass you.
Champions show up every day, be it in the classroom, on the court or in the boardroom. Showing up may help you be one of them. Remember that!
