Teaching Entrepreneurship in Nigerian Secondary Schools is inevitable [SEE]

This morning, I read about how the Nigerian Educational and Research Development Council (NERDC) collaborated with the United National Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) have launched an entrepreneurship curriculum to be used for teaching senior secondary school students. The first thing that came to my mind is that this initiative couldn’t have come at a better time! It had been long overdue as a matter of fact; very inevitable for Nigerian teens to be taught entrepreneurial skills. So I am very delighted by the news as should every teenager and parents/guardians of teenagers reading this right now.

HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROJECT

The Executive Secretary of of NERDC, Professor Osma’il Junaidu, while speaking during the launch of the project in the Federal Capital Territory disclosed that the new curriculum is intended to equip teenagers with entrepreneurial skills which will be handy for as as per when they leave school and even later in life. Part of the intentions behind the new curriculum is also to get the youths interested in entrepreneurship is an inevitable means to job creation and economic development, he said. The partnership with UNIDO has ensured that the curriculum is up to international best practices. And this means that teens are up for some good time as far as learning about entrepreneurship is concerned.

Meanwhile, also speaking during the flag-off ceremony is Mallam Adamu Adamu the Nigerian Minister of Education. He said that the new curriculum would definitely help reduce unemployment among young people. And this is very necessary considering that the rate of unemployment/underemployment is so high currently.  Anyway, UNIDO’s country representative in Nigeria, Mr. Chuma Ezedinma commented on the project during its launching, stating that entrepreneurship is a necessary thing when it comes to stimulating economic growth and opportunities for everyone.
