PHOTOS: Meet One Of The World’s Most Dedicated Teachers

Mr. Abdul Mallik, a teacher from Malappuram, India, proves that nothing can stop him from reaching his students – not even a river. Each day, the dedicated teacher wades through neck-high water to get to the primary school where he has worked for 20 years, NDTV reports.

One of the main reasons is because it is the fastest way to get to class.

“If I go by bus, it takes me three hours to cover the distance,” the teacher told TV-reporters. “But swimming through the river is easier, faster and I reach school on time.”

Once he crosses the river, he changes into a dry set of clothes and then continues the walk to school.

All the students of the school appreciate Mr. Mallik, always greet him with smiles.

“[Teaching jobs involve] inculcating discipline, instilling self-confidence, determination and general knowledge in students,” the Chief Minister of the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu, J Jayalalithaa, said addressing the teachers on the Teachers’ Day, which is celebrated in India on September 5. “I wish that the teachers who do this special job create a knowledge-based society that will bring laurels to the country.”

Mr. Mallik is certainly working to achieve just that.
