The strike was scheduled to start on Thursday.
The FCT wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has suspended with immediate effect its planned industrial action (strike) which was intended to commence today, Thursday October 24
th 2013.
It subsequently called on its members to resume their normal duty without further delay.
The union shelved the industrial dispute through a communique issued at the end of its emergency State Wing Executive Council (SWEC) meeting held at the FCT Teachers House, Gwagwalada, Abuja which started on Wednesday 23rd October, 2013 and ended on Thursday (today) morning.
The suspension of the strike followed the quick intervention of the FCT Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed who showed genuine concern and dispatched approval for the re-screening, clearance and proposed prompt payment of the salaries of the affected teachers.
According to the communiqué, the FCT NUT Executive Council examined and reviewed the outcome of the meeting with the FCT Minister, the FCTA Management and the ALGON leadership and suspended the industrial dispute based on understanding that the re-screening, clearance and prompt payment of salary of the affected teachers to be made within seven days as promised.
The Executive Committee therefore called on all its members (teachers) to continue with their legitimate duties.
