The government of Borno State has shut down 85 Government Secondary Schools due to fears of new attacks by the Boko Haram group in the area.
This has been confirmed by Governor Kashim Shettima on March 17, 2014, Monday, during his interview on BBC Hausa.
The governor said this step was necessary to protect the lives of innocent students, as well as the school properties in the state.
“The schools are to remain closed until security situation in the state improves,” Shettima added.
It would be recalled that Boko Haram’s attacks on schools in the North East has already resulted in closure of five Federal Unity Colleges in Yobe, Borno and Adamawa states by the Federal Government.
At the same time, President Goodluck Jonathan has ordered the eight-man Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Peaceful Resolution of Security Challenges in the North to resume its work.
