#PNN E-MENTORING (Yoma Victor): How To Generate Income (As A Teenager)

Income as I’ve defined, is reward gained in exchange for value delivered. This could be in the form of money, or any other agreed form of compensation. Meaning, income can be money or property or shares or clothes, etc. Every money or multiplication of money you received is tied to some sort of value you have delivered. So without a delivering of service, a sale of a product or an adding of value, you do not deserve an income.

I believe everyone of us is an entrepreneur. Living with this mindset will make you add more value even if you have a job. I believe the beginning of all success, the first step in gaining riches, the most important skill you require as a person is the SELLING SKILL. Donald Trump, a billionaire says, there are two skills required for any person to become wealthy, without which, you can kiss wealth good bye. These skills are negotiation skills and selling skills.

My personal opinion is that, the greatest skill of a successful entrepreneur is the ability to raise capital, and the easiest way to raise capital is by selling. Think about it, which wealthy or successful person do you know who doesn’t know how to sell their idea, themselves, their product or their service? A mentor once told me that his own mentor who now owns a successful oil company, once sold wood. Can you imagine that? An oil company selling wood? But it is instructive to note that what he needed at the time was to raise capital, and since oil business wasn’t forth coming yet, he had to sell wood in the meantime and he did a pretty good job selling wood.

What can you sell today? What are you selling today? A few weeks ago I was in Ekiti state, and after sharing business opportunities with a group, a young man accosted me afterwards and told me he wanted to be a motivational speaker like me – I simply told him, I am a teacher, I don’t consider myself a motivational speaker but if he wanted to be one, the best thing he could start doing was look for something to sell. Your motivational speaking will transform people if it is coming from your real experience.
