#PNN E-MENTORING (Yoma Victor): How To Generate Income (As A Teenager) 2

Notice: please for those who sent me emails on their business idea, I’m sorry I haven’t replied any of you. I will do that this week.

Last week, I suggested to us that selling was the best way at this level to earn income. Another option that you can explore in earning income is to enroll for mentorship. Now for many of us, we are still confused about what we want to become in life, we don’t get an easier deal from our older siblings or parents because they have what/who they want us to become and push us in that direction. Most times, what they are pushing us to study has nothing to do with what we really want for our lives.

My suggestion for most people who ask me about how to find their purpose, is “get out there doing something, anything..just join others making things happen”. In my experience, while you are working with others, you will gravitate towards what you really love. As a matter of fact, you will discover the next thing to do.

What is going on around you? ‘Who’ is going on around you? What project around you can you be a part of? Which uncle, aunty or family friend can you go to their office with daily? You may need to work for free even. Yes, free! I know we are talking about income here but learning precedes earning. Volunteer and when you are done, you would have learnt a lot and they may even decide to pay you if you decide to leave.

Your holidays should be spent working. You need the valuable experience that a business environment can give. I have a mentor who ensures that his kids work every holiday since JSS 1. Interestingly, they love it and their mates are jealous of their contacts, wisdom, entrepreneurship drive and savvy. By the time they are entering university, they would have had 6 years of working experience; add that to 4 years while they are in university. I have no doubt that they would be better positioned to run a business or land a top job because of their hands on experience.

Get mentored today, practical hands on experience. Be a receptionist somewhere, sign up as a sales representative, join a social project, volunteer for an NGO, get real busy in church, learn to sell CDs or books. Build your capacity to earn.
