Sincerely speaking, Child-Marriage is one of the worst things to have ever happened to humankind! There are just too many things wrong with that sort of arrangement. And even though the victims usually are the ones who suffer most, the ill-effects affect society at large and could often extend to generations yet unborn. Therefore, just so we are clear, it is hereby categorically stated that there are so many things wrong with Child-Marriages. For this reason it must be eradicated! The agony children go through in the name of marriage should no longer be tolerated. Indeed, girls must be allowed to enjoy their childhood, their teenagehood and their early adulthood. Nobody deserves to be forcibly married off even pre-puberty as it often happens. No girl child deserves to be subjected to such barbaric and almost way of life. Grown adults must marry each other while children are let alone to grow up!
Just to let us in on how really bad Child-Marriage can be, a girl who was married off so early in life by her parents once recounted: “I faced a lot of problems in marriage. I was young and did not know how to be a wife. I was pregnant, had to look after my husband, do housework, deal with in-laws, and work on the farm. My worst time was when I was pregnant; I had to do all this and deal with a pregnancy while I was just a child myself.” Unfortunately, this girl is not alone as research reports indicate that in Sub-Saharan Africa alone, nearly forty percent of girls [fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”yes” overflow=”visible”][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][40%] are forcibly married off to older men before they are eighteen years. In Northern Nigeria alone, it is alleged that nearly 77% of girls are married off before they clock 18 years old. This denies them basic human rights such as Education and exposes them to all kinds of disadvantages and risks. It is such super horrible!
There are so many disadvantages associated with child marriage which are reasons enough why Governments must step up and abolish the barbaric act once and for all. Some of these ill-effects range from poverty to health-related issues. As a matter of fact, communities where girls are married off early are also some of the places where poverty is prevalent. There is high mortality rate, and those child brides who are lucky enough to survive childbirths are often left with debilitating conditions such as Vesicovaginal Fistula.
