FG/ASUU Agreement : Federal University of Technology Minna Gets N5.4 bn-VC

The vice chancellor of Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna, Prof. Musbau Adewumi Akanji has revealed that the institution has been allocated N5.4 billion as part of the N200 billion funds agreed between federal government and Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) for the development of universities.

Prof. Akanji disclosed this while receiving members of National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) who paid him a visit in Minna as part of their zonal convention held at FUT Minna Auditorium.

According to Akanji all the stakeholders in the university would be consulted on the way the money would be expended when the money is released to the university.

The vice chancellor stated that it was heartwarming that the federal government has kept its side of the bargain with ASUU by allocating the funds to the universities.

The vice chancellor stated that it is a good development for the educational advancement of Nigeria that government of President Goodluck Jonathan has taken the challenge of injecting more funds into the universities.

The zonal convention which comprises about ten states  was held at FUT Auditorium, with the senior special assistant to the president on youth and student matters, Comrade Jude Imagwe in attendance,

Imagwe decried the long polytechnic lecturers’ strike.

saying that “you cannot get result sometime through protest but through dialogue”.

He posited that if all unions in the country go on strike it would  adversely affect the economies of the country and therefore sympathized with the polytechnic and college of education students who have being at home due to strike.

While stating that the two unions should embrace dialogue he state that, “we should all sacrifice for the betterment of our country”
