Nightmare for Maths Teachers: Now there’s an app that uses phone camera to solve any equation it sees!

Wow! Maths teachers will definitely hate this.

A new app can solve any equation it sees – allowing students to cheat in class or when doing their homework.

To use the PhotoMath app, developed in Croatia, users simply point the phone’s cameras at the formula – and the answer almost instantly appears on screen.

‘It makes maths easy and simple by educating users how to solve maths problems,’ the firm said.

Billed as a ‘smart camera calculator,’ PhotoMath uses optical character recognition to ‘read’ maths problems, the app then solves the captured functions and displays the final result.

A single tap shows a worked out, step-by-step solution.

‘The purpose of the application is to be a useful tool for learning mathematics, since it shows the detailed steps that lead up to the solution, the firm said.

Launched at the Twechcrunch Disrupt conference in London, the app is available for iOS and windows phones, with an Android version coming later this year.

WHAT CAN IT DO?

At present, the app can solve the following problems:

Arithmetic

Expressions

Fractions

Decimals Powers and roots

Simple linear equations
