#PNN E-MENTORING (Taiwo Akinlami): Beyond Age, What TEENAGER Really Means

Hello young friends. Sure you are doing great today. Yesterday was Mothering Sunday, an occasion for honouring mothers and giving them presents. I hope you honoured your mothers yesterday with presents. If you have not done that today provides you another opportunity. It is better late than never. Our mothers deserve to be honoured daily and in days like this. I am sure we are on the same page on this.

Last week, I began to discuss with you along the line of identity. Today I will look another letter of the word, TEENAGER in decoding your identity. Your E stands for Energized by Nature: Being young does not mean physical or emotional weakness. You are strong and have a lot of energy. You do not want the energy tamed or gagged for whatever reason. You appreciate if your energy is directed in the right and positive direction to enhance the peace of the family and community at large and yourself.

The other E says you are Exposed to Being Underrated: Parents and the society have the tendency to underrate you. Your knowledge and ability to do good or evil is seriously underrated by parents and society. Therefore your genius and delinquency shock us alike.

Your N says you are Nearly Fully Formed: According to Maria Montessori 80 percent of the child’s personality is formed between age zero and six.  This goes without saying that a teen is almost fully formed in believe, values and habits. The hope for change is however guaranteed by the fact that change is an ever-present possibility for anyone, who is ready to take responsibility.  The implication is that it is too late to relate with you at teenage age with force. We must learn to reason with you lest we provoke you to anger.

I will continue with the other part of the acronyms next week. I am signing out. Before then, note that I am available for interaction on this platform. Do have an INSPIRED week. Stay SMART!
