All of us are guilty of comparing our lives and our situations with others. We see a total stranger walking down the road and then we begin to think how we wish we were them. Our friends’ lives tend to fascinate us more than our own lives. And when it does happen that other people are actually a lot more successful than we are, we truly wish we could just become them. We are all guilty of all these; trust me I’ve compared my life with those of others. It’s almost as if we cannot help ourselves. Unfortunately, it just so happens that comparing ourselves with others isn’t the best thing we should be doing at all. The reason each time you compare yourself with others, you inevitably get sad with your life. This is when you realize how much your life sucks and you just want to get rid of everything you are about. Why would you want this; doing something that makes you mad? I bet you have no tangible reason! Anyway, read [below] more reasons why you should never compare yourself with others-
COMPARING YOURSELF WITH OTHERS BELITTLES YOUR SELF-ESTEEM
When you compare yourself with others, you belittle yourself and your confidence suffers. Overtime, this forms an inferiority complex which you may find hard to get over. So never you compare yourself with anybody; please!
COMPARING YOURSELF WITH OTHERS CAUSES RESENTMENT
Do you know that comparing yourself with your friends can make you [unknowingly] nurture some resentment for him or her which will ultimately ruin your friendship? Many people have lost very good friends this way. Indeed, comparisons cause resentment/jealousy. Neither of these is good for friendship or any form of human relationship as a matter of fact.
IT LEADS TO DEPRESSION
Comparisons surely cause a lot of harm to you as a person, including making you depressed and sad. This is because when you compare yourself with your friends, you never seem to come close to being enough…at least so it is in your mind. You always feel everyone else is better than you. And what else could cause the ultimate depression than having a mindset such as this!
Other reasons why you must desist from comparing yourself with others are because:
- It makes you feel insecure
- It affects your happiness
- Comparisons hold you back from moving forward in life.
- You start to be yourself when you stop comparing your life with those of others.
